Letter from a Friend

We've made a lot of friends over the past ten years - one of the many great benefits of being in the coffee industry. Of those many great friends, there is a short list, however, of people who have been subtly integral to our success. Without them, who knows where we would or wouldn't be; we only know that we're better off today because of their dedication as clients, advocates, supporters, cheerleaders customers, and most importantly, friends.
Shortly after our Ten Year Anniversary Party, we received a letter from one such friend. It was such a touching note and it acknowledged so much of what we always hope the public perceives about our brand and our team, so we decided to share it with you, if for no other reason than to say thanks to the author, Todd Taylor.

Good Morning David,

I’m still very weary just coming out of a terrible sickness I worked through the past week        and thus I want to apologize for not making the party last night.   I just wanted to say how proud I am of Blanchard’s accomplishment of being in business for 10 years.  Very few businesses make it that far and thus proves how special Blanchard’s coffee really is.  I still remember the day I read about your coffee shop opening in the Business section of the Times Dispatch and I decided then and there that I would visit.  I drove over to Forest Hill Ave and found this door facing the alley way.  I thought that this was an interesting entrance and I proceeded to climb the stairs to the shop. What I found was a warm and inviting atmosphere with the wonderful smell of freshly roasted and brewed coffee.  You were a gentleman in your service and to say the least the coffee was outstanding.  Well that was the beginning of what become a good and solid partnership between Blanchard’s and Ellwood Thompson’s.  You guys have grown so much.  You have changed and become better. I want to say thanks for all you have done for the coffee community here in the RVA.  We are more mature, more sophisticated.  You have also held a torch for other coffee companies who have started since then.  I know the pie is only so big but your abundance mentality has encouraged others to try and continue the good work you guys started.  I can’t wait to see what is ahead for Blanchard’s Coffee in the next 10 years.  I know your value to the market place will increase as you mature even further.  Once I can get to the point where I’m having a beer again I will raise my glass and toast to Blanchard’s continued success.

Always on your side,
"Coach" Todd Taylor

Throughout the past decade, Todd has been one of our biggest promoters, for sure, and such a great friend. A lover of great coffee, beer and people, Todd always has the best, most positive outlook on life in general and we couldn't ask for a better friend and advocate, both at his place of work, Ellwood Thompson Market, and in general.
Thanks for being awesome, Todd, we appreciate you.
