Brewing Notes

The Finca San Jose Estate is situated just north of Matagalpa in North-Central Nicaragua. This area is the most desirable coffee farming land in Nicaragua due to its altitude and climate diversity. The topography creates numerous microclimates that allow single hillsides to have distinct growing conditions conducive to many different coffee varietals and a wide range of results within those varietals. Finca San Jose is divided into four sectors, each producing different results, allowing us to source specific sectors to isolate specific flavor characteristics.

The current featured Quirk Coffee, Nicaragua Finca San Jose de las Nubes, is a naturally sweet and subtely complex coffee that is best highlighted with hand pour methods like Hario V60 or Kalita Wave, but also makes a very enjoyable cup using a traditional automatic coffee maker.

Quirk Coffee is a special collaboration with our friends at the world class Quirk Hotel of Richmond, Virginia. As the exclusive coffee roaster for the boutique hotel, its in-house restaurant, Maple & Pine, and the beautiful Quirk Cafe espresso bar, Quirk Coffee was designed to match the hotel's elegant aesthetic while featuring a rotating single origin coffee. The package design was chosen as one of the top twenty new coffee package designs of 2016 at the 2016 Specialty Coffee Association Expo.
