Over the last few years, Red Fox has been working to build trust and partnerships with coffee farmers in the Oaxaca region of Mexico. This year we purchased this small lot by producer Isaac Hernandez as well as a larger lot from a collection of eight farmers in the Pluma region of Oaxaca which you will find in our Handshake Blend. Both coffees share a backbone of brown sugar, but the sweetness of Isaac Hernandez’s coffee develops a kind of baked apricot fruitiness complimented by its floral, orange blossom finish.

Typica (Pluma), Bourbon & Mundo Novo
This region has suffered for generations from such common issues as Roya (coffee leaf rust) and low market pricing. While many of the larger estate holders abandoned their trees, these smaller farms, whether out of necessity or tenacity, have not given up on their crops. It is Red Fox’s hope that with the promise of a fair and consistent pricing, farmers in the Pluma region of Oaxaca will be able to reinvest in their farms and continue to produce coffees unique only to Pluma.
