We don’t talk much about the Brazillian coffees we roast in a year. As a major component of Blanchard’s Blend, we sort of just plow through pallets. The Brazil Primavera has been featured in blends like Bear Trap and Richmond as well as our staple decaffeinated offering for years now, but it is very rare that a Brazillian coffee has center stage as a single origin. This year we wanted to change that and celebrate the work that Ally and the producers in Brazil have been doing.

Our second competition lot from AMECAFE Mantiquiera (The Association of Coffee Women Entrepreneurs in Serra de Mantiquiera) comes from producers Regina de Fatima Bueno and her husband Silvanei de Sousa at Sitio Cocho Velho. Both Regina and Silvanei were raised by coffee farmers. The couple worked as harvesters on neighboring farms while adding to the infrastructure of their own farm. In 2014, they narrowed their focus to producing specialty coffee with notable success. This Yellow Catuai was one of the top 10 entries at AMECAFE in October 2020. The coffee is incredibly fragrant from dry grounds to the finished cup. It is sweet and balanced with dark, ripe cherries and a sweet finish that hangs around just long enough.
