In the last three years, we have purchased only one coffee from Burundi. This year, for no reason that we planned, we ended up buying five different lots. A few of which are some of the best coffees we tasted last year. The first to arrive from Homage Coffee Source is a washed red bourbon from the Munkaze washing station in Kayanza.
This lot comes from the Rwintare community of 12 smallholder families located about two kilometers from Munkaze. We were drawn to this cup for it’s unique depth of flavor and overall composure. We tasted things like molasses cookies, dried dates, black currant, and baking spices like nutmeg and cinnamon.
