Coffee Story
Brewing Notes

Catalan de las Mercedes is a 5th generation coffee farm, owned and operated by Ruth Maria de Los Angeles Martinez and her son, Nico Hammond. The farm is located in the Chimaltenango region of central Guatemala, consisting of 300 hectares of primarily Bourbon variety, though recently Hammond has also begun to experiment with cultivating Pacamara, Caturra, and Gesha varieties. Martinez is focused on innovation, recently adding a micro-mill to maintain total control over processing of the farm's coffee, as well as offering a local mill site for surrounding farmers. This focus on innovation led Catalan de las Mercedes to win Guatemala's Coffee of Excellence competition in 2012.

The Catalan de las Mercedes is an exceptionally drinkable coffee no matter what brew method is used. Automatic drip coffee makers work well with this coffee, while hand pour methods like Hario V60, Chemex, and Kalita Wave will bring out even more complexity of flavor.
