Brewing Notes

The Muchagara Factory is named after one of the villages in Kirinyaga County. The factory was opened for processing in 1959 making it the oldest wet processing centre in Kirinyaga. The area is very fertile for agricultural production and therefore making the factory very viable to be built in that location.

Typical of Kenyan coffee producers, the Muchagara Factory uses washed, or wet processing, using strictly fresh river water flowing off nearby Mt. Kenya. After washing, the coffee is dried on raised beds for quality and consistency.

 The "AA" distinction refers to the size of screens used to sort coffees - "AA" is the largest screen used in the sorting process. Though not directly related to quality measure, the larger bean size of "AA" and "AB" sorted coffees is a common corollary.

Fruit-forward coffees like the Muchagara AA are best brewed with filter hand pour methods like Hario V60 or Kalita Wave.
