The Matas de Minas estate is situated within the Minas Gerais State of southeastern Brazil. This region holds a wide range of terrain and altitude, from 400 to 1,100 meters, making much of it ideal for high quality coffee production. Estate owner, Francisco Carlos Porcaro is an experienced coffee farmer and agronomist, and is well respected for the consistent quality of his plantation’s coffee production. Matas de Minas is strictly hand-harvested, insuring optimal ripeness and uniformity.
At the cupping table, The Blanchard’s Coffee Roasting Co. team found the most distinctive character of this coffee to be an overall impression of cashew. Brazilian coffee generally has a nutty character, but the Matas de Minas is distinctively cashew in both flavor and mouth-feel. The coffee also exhibits a very enjoyable baked sweetness that is reminiscent of toasted oats and raisins - think Raisin Bran cereal.
This is a versatile coffee and will perform very well in just about any brewing method. It is a great coffee for your home drip coffee maker as well as any hand pour methods you might have. You can’t go wrong with a French Press of this coffee at a 1:15 ratio of coffee to water, and, if you’re super serious about your coffee technique, this makes a great component for an espresso blend.
