The Gogogu Bekaka Washing Station is located in one of the highest, deepest forests in Ethiopia (just over 2300 meters above sea level). Red Fox has been working with Gogogu Bekaka’s manager, Kedir Jebril Imamu and his two brothers, Feku and Abdi, for as long as they’ve been Red Fox. These forest coffees from Uraga are some of the most unique in the country. This lot is full of tropical fruits like pineapple and lychee with an earthy, crisp finish like an Italian soda with a splash of half and half.

Gogogu’s process is meticulous to say the least, both in the sorting/grading process and in the washing/drying process. This year, Kedir used only the coffees harvestest at its densest ripening period between December 10 and January 5 as Grade 1, with all the coffee harvested before and after allocated to Grade 2. He leaves the freshly peeled seeds under water for 60 hours before washing and sorting them again for density. Once the coffee has been soaked again, it is sent to drying beds where it is covered in mesh for 5-6 days to protect it from cracking in the sun and then uncovered for an additional 5-6 days before moving to the warehouse for a month or so of rest. All of this care and attention give Gogogu’s coffees extraordinary depth and composure.
