There’s nothing better than when your favorite fruit is in season. That first mango, or that first peach (to name a couple of my own favorites) have the power to snap you out of the mundane and bring your awareness into the wonder of the present moment. They can inform the enigmatic clock within your heart that indeed, a new season has arrived.
This is the first coffee from Kenya we’ve received this year. It could not be more fresh, having only arrived in the US less than a month ago. And like that first piece of fruit, it has already changed the way I see the world. The cup is unmistakably Kenyan, with a profile that presents like a bowl of stewed red fruits alongside a cup of delicate black tea. The acidity is bright, but perfectly integrated with the flavors, creating a sense of deep sweetness. Drinking this coffee is an experience unlike any I’ve had in the past few months. It’s one of joy and inspiration for what the rest of this season has in store. What a wonderful thing to begin a day with.
