We don’t talk much about the Brazillian coffees we roast in a year. As a major component of Blanchard’s Blend, we sort of just plow through pallets. The Brazil Primavera has been featured in blends like Bear Trap and Richmond as well as our staple decaffeinated offering for years now, but it is very rare that a Brazillian coffee has center stage as a single origin. This year we wanted to change that and celebrate the work that Ally and the producers in Brazil have been doing. 

We purchased two competition lots from AMECAFE Mantiquiera (The Association of Coffee Women Entrepreneurs in Serra de Mantiquiera) this year. The first is from producer Geovana Aparecida Borges Silveira, a third generation coffee farmer who purchased Sitio Santa Barbara in 2016, shifting her family’s focus from commercial to specialty coffee production. This coffee is classically Brazilian, with clean sugary flavors like a caramel dipped red apple rolled in nuts.
