Mullugeta Muntasha

Mullugeta Muntasha was raised in Bursa, a community where coffee has only recently become an important crop. Before producing coffee himself, he spent years working throughout the supply chain, first driving trucks that carried freshly harvested cherry to local washing stations and later purchasing coffee for the central market. As shifting weather patterns and local agricultural support encouraged more coffee planting in Bursa, Mullugeta returned home in 2021 to establish Dawencho, his own drying station.

Dawencho quickly gained recognition for the quality of its coffees. In its first year, Mullugeta earned sixth place in Ethiopia’s Cup of Excellence while a farmer group connected to the station placed second. The following year, four of the competition’s top ten coffees were processed at Dawencho, including the winning lot. Today, Mullugeta processes coffee from his own farm alongside cherries from neighboring producers, helping showcase the potential of this emerging coffee-growing area.
