San Vicente Yogondoy

San Vicente Yogondoy is a remote, high-elevation community in Oaxaca’s Sierra Sur, where producers grow coffee under dense native forest. The group is led by Pompilio Garcia Luna, who helped organize local farmers after years of being limited to low-paying, exploitative buyers.

In the mid-2010s, Pompilio planted his first Pluma coffee trees, believing the region could produce high-quality coffee if sold through better, more direct relationships. His nephew, Lalo, connected with Red Fox Coffee Merchants at a coffee fair in Oaxaca, and that conversation became the start of a long-term sourcing partnership.

Farms in Yogondoy are accessible only by foot or mule, and harvesting is labor-intensive. But thanks to consistent investment and a strong community effort, yields and quality have steadily improved. Most producers here grow Pluma exclusively—a local Typica mutation known for its clarity and sweetness.

This lot reflects that potential, with crisp apple acidity, balanced sweetness, and a toasted nut finish.
