Kanzu Lot #3
Kanzu is a remarkably remote washing station in the Western province of Rwanda where various local smallholder producers are able to bring their fresh coffee cherry and have it processed and brought to market. Its close proximity to the Nyungwe national forest provides Kanzu with a great deal of cloud cover and gentle mist. This, in combination with the area’s extreme elevation, creates longer ripening times for the coffee cherries, increasing the coffee’s complexity and sense of place.
This is our fifth season bringing in coffee from Kanzu. It’s become a mainstay for our late winter menu. The natural is a beautiful counterpoint to the current climate in coffee processing. Favoring aspects that accentuate the coffee’s unique personality and flavor profile, rather than a heavier handed fermentation flavor.
This coffee is a breath of fresh air, and a spirited addition to the winter roster.
