Las Perlitas
Las Perlitas, or “little pearls,” is exactly what it sounds like. Small, carefully grown lots from producers who don’t always have the volume to export on their own, but more than make up for it in quality. This coffee brings together five producers from La Plata in Huila, each working small farms high in the mountains around 1,800 meters. It’s a shared effort, shaped by families, long days, and a steady focus on picking only the ripest fruit.
This particular lot highlights Bourbon Aruzy, a newer variety in the region that’s been turning heads for its bright, expressive profile. After harvest, cherries are depulped the same day and sealed up for a long fermentation before being washed in low-water eco mills. Drying happens slowly under cover, stretching out over a couple of weeks depending on the weather. It’s a process that rewards patience and attention, and it shows up clearly in the cup.
Las Perlitas is also a reflection of how coffee like this comes together behind the scenes. Each small lot is tasted multiple times before being included, with the same standards applied across the board regardless of size. The goal is simple. If it tastes great and meets the mark, it belongs.
In the cup, this one feels lively and layered, with a mix of tropical fruit, soft florals, and a clean sweetness that hangs on just a bit longer than you expect. It’s a great example of what’s possible when smaller producers are given the space and support to do their best work.
