San Lucas Zoquiapam

San Lucas Zoquiapam is a lush, mountainous region in Oaxaca, where coffee farms are tucked into dense forests and often surrounded by a layer of fog. Producers here grow coffee alongside corn and beans, using native trees like pines and ice cream beans to provide shade for their coffee and support the surrounding ecosystem.

Most producers process their coffee at home, soaking it for 18 to 24 hours before drying it on raised beds or petates for 6 to 10 days. Because many of the farms are small and difficult to reach, harvest is often a family and community effort, with coffee making its way from the farms to collection points by foot, truck, or mule.

Red Fox has worked with producers in San Lucas Zoquiapam for several years, building relationships with families like the Garcia Carreras and helping connect their coffees with better markets. The region is also home to a growing number of young coffee producers who are choosing to continue the traditions of their families while cultivating the varieties that have long been grown in the area.

We love the combination of bright, clean coffee and the story behind it. This is a coffee shaped by small family farms, traditional processing, and a community that is working to keep coffee production going for generations to come.
