Day 5 New Orleans to Houston

Day Five: A Stressful Drive, a Welcome Rest

The stretch from New Orleans to Houston was tougher than expected. Strong winds and endless highway construction made for a stressful drive, the kind where you grip the wheel a little tighter than usual. But the destination made it all worth it—we were headed to see our dear friends, the Walker family.

Once in Houston, we made our way to Buffalo Bayou Park for a run. After hours on the road, moving our legs in such a beautiful setting felt like a reset. Then, we drove north to The Woodlands to spend the evening at the Walkers’ home. A real bed, a load of laundry, and the comfort of old friends—it was exactly what we needed.

The next morning, we lingered over coffee and breakfast, stretching out the time before goodbye. It’s always hard leaving friends when you don’t know when you’ll see them again. The Walkers played such a huge role in our children’s early years, and being with them again reminded us how deeply friendships shape our lives.

With full hearts, we got back on the road, heading toward San Antonio, the journey continuing.
